Youth polo

Bringing on the next generation

We develop young players through the HPA and Pony Club pathways, and run teams at every level from beginners to experienced juniors.

As a Pony Club Linked Centre, we can enter children who do not belong to a traditional Pony Club, and we host training days before matches. Pony hire is available.

  • Junior Academy lessons every Sunday morning from 9am through the winter, when there is no junior fixture. £90 a session, or £45 on your own pony. Book online.
  • Junior tournaments at Halloween, Christmas, New Year and half term. Every team plays with an Oxford Polo professional or coach. See the 2026/27 dates.
  • Senior Squad training, in development for players stepping up to higher club polo.

David and the coaching team are always happy to talk through your child’s riding and plan the right training.

School polo

Polo for pupils aged eight to eighteen

We manage and coach polo for a number of schools, from pupils trying it for the first time to the school team.

  1. 1

Your school takes a weekly slot

Usually a master in charge of polo, or a parent, looks after it on the school’s side.

  2. 2

    We prepare the horses

You tell us who is coming and the horses are ready when the pupils arrive.

  3. 3

    Pupils compete

We help schools join the Schools & Universities Polo Association for organised tournaments, or arrange one-off fixtures. This season we host SUPA junior and senior schools friendlies and the SUPA Junior Schools National Championships.

Questions

Before your first lesson

Which lesson would suit me?

If you have never played, or are returning after a break, start with a one-hour first lesson: £180 private, or £144 per person in a group.

After that, individual and group lessons both have their merits. When we feel you are ready for club chukkas, we can build a weekly one-to-one session into your training.

What experience do I need to join the club?

Anyone of any ability can join the Oxford Polo Arena Club. To play HPA tournaments you will need membership of an HPA-approved club. Membership also includes club chukkas and reduces tournament entry fees and pony hire.

Under-21 members are automatically signed up to the Pony Club. We host and enter teams in Pony Club matches and tournaments throughout the year.

What should I wear?

For your first lessons, any boot or shoe with a heel will do; the heel stops your foot slipping through the stirrup. If you continue, full-length polo boots give much better protection.

We lend helmets, though your own will fit better and protect you best. We are happy to recommend suppliers.

Dress for the weather and wear layers in the evening, since polo is physical. Full-length trousers prevent rubbing, and thin gloves help.

Anything else?

No question is too small. Call us on 07494 572 877 or send us a note.
